another summer day...

...another cotton dress, same straw hat

This was a feel good, lots of compliments outfit and so perfect for a summer day.

Turns out, riding your bike is not just good for you and good for the environment, it's even good for the economy! Not just your personal, less-gas-buying economy, the national jobs-needed economy. Check it out! :-)

just a quick note about maxi dresses

Hey there readers, I'm back from Spain but hiding under a lot of pictures to sort through and a long to do list, but I promise to post some outfits soon. In the mean time, let's just all appreciate how pretty Anna is and how great her outfits are :-).

Anna posted about wanting more maxi skirts, so I thought I'd share this maxi dress post from Ramshackle Glam.

And I am aware that a dress and skirt are different...

because the couch is comfy: pretty things & links

I had a crazy day, just crazy and I even had to be smiley-tension-resolving Sasha (for those of you who don't know me, I'm great at putting on a smiley face in between two people who sound like they are not particularly please with each other. It's hard to be tense and annoyed over a smiling co-worker. Not to "toot my own horn..."). Unfortunately, smiley-tension-resolving Sasha sometimes absorbs some of that tension.

And now I'm on the couch, with tea and pineapple, and I just don't want to get up to get my camera and today's outfit pictures. So here's a few pretty pictures and some links instead:

feeling crafty

I just found http://psimadethis.com and http://www.designspongeonline.com/category/diy-projects. My creative juices are flowing, I have some cheap gray t-shirts to cut up and I'm about to run to the 24-hour price chopper for a new pack of multi-color sharpies.

Some of my favorite DIY:
jewelry bust
pocket watch wall clock
spool hooks
tassel earrings
summer scarf

If my sudden DIY urge goes well, expect to see it on the blog. If not...expect to never hear about it again haha.

Dress Your Best

We're a little late, but I just came across Dress Your Best Week on academicchic. The idea is to dress to highlight what you like about your body instead of hiding what you don't like. Lots of bloggers are participating - check it out!

enjoy it now

dear readers,

life lately has been full of lovely things: spring & warm weather, passover & matzo ball soup, my birthday & lots of celebrating with wonderful friends, easter & eggs hunts. i've been busy enjoying all of these things and not taking too many pictures or uploading the few i have taken. here's a few links that caught my attention in the midst of wonderful spring things:
  • United States of Pop 2009 - just listen to it, if nothing else, you'll laugh
  • The Sartorialist's A Year in Fashion video
  • The quote in this Urban Weeds post:
"I treat my body as a canvas. Fashion is a way to express yourself as a piece of art." - Alison Nicole, Wardrobe Stylist
  • IT'S OVER: Why I Broke Up With The Sartorialist from Male Pattern Boldness - don't get me wrong, i love the Sartorialist and plan to continue reading his blog frequently. this post sums up why i like to read a mix of blogs (from the Sartorialist to Uber Chic for Cheap) and read them for fun, because i like pretty things, and because i appreciate good photography. i do not let blogs dictate what i wear (although i certainly get some inspiration).
  • this post, also from Male Pattern Boldness, discussing age appropriate dressing. seems fitting as i figure out what to wear from college studying and dance rehearsal to job interviews.
When I do get around to posting outfit pictures, I have some great new things to show off. Most important, my darling sister got me a beautiful necklace from Beads Story for my birthday and a found a great (seriously, real leather handmade in Spain) bag for $6 dollars at the thrift store yesterday. To top it off, my parents are getting me a GorillaPod for my birthday, which should improve my photo quality dramatically and generally be lots of fun to play with.

Happy Spring, now go outside! (Ok, if you're reading this shortly after I post this at 9pm, you can wait until tomorrow to go outside.)

inspiration to be warm and pretty

It's been really cold lately, as I'm sure everyone in New England and anywhere else winter-y has noticed. The lovely folks in Helsinki on Hel Looks are pretty great at dealing with cold weather and they provide some cozy inspiration for staying warm and pretty (two of my favorite ways to be!).

My own tip for staying warm is really pretty simple - layers, layers, layers. Two pairs of tights, tights under jeans, scarves, layers of tank tops/t-shirts and a sweater, however you work it, layers will keep you warm.

vintage belts and boots of the past

Here's a few pictures of what I've been wearing lately:

I found the belt in a cute vintage shop in New York with my family. My mom found an equally great and totally different belt - we plan to trade when we visit so I'll post that eventually too.

This is blurred a bit to hide the odd backdrop of coats and pictures in my living room...

You can't tell too much in the picture, but those boots have seen much better days. The toes are no longer black because the suede rubbed off and there are rips and tears. Since the photo, they have been replace with a new, leather (more New England weather-proof) version!

and a little Monday morning present: http://shop.marketpublique.com/. I stumbled on Market Publique, a vintage auction site yesterday - no purchases yet, but lots of fun to browse.

fun things!

it's a beautiful sunny day, but I am stuck inside at work in an overly air conditioned building. here's some links we enjoyed.

"Oh Snap! Our Step-By-Step Guide To Getting Shot By The Sartorialist" from The Pipeline

a dusty dress post that uses math and I'm actually ok with it.

time to eat an apple.
