I like this, do you?

This is one of those mom-knows-best stories. Last spring, Free People sold a full length, black, wide leg, strapless jumper/romper and my mom said it would look great on me. I was skeptical and it was a typical Free People price which is a bit out of my range.

Recently, I've been day-dreaming of that jumper, mixed in with day dreams of warm enough days to wear a jumper. It would be so great with a belt, and appropriate and fun with a jacket at work. Free People doesn't sell the jumper anymore, but! today, I saw this on Modcloth:

I bet it would look great with a belt or a jacket. Do you like it? I'm still a bit skeptical if I would wear it enough to be worth the money, so I need some opinions!

spring dreams come true

A picture story of why I haven't posted any outfits recently:

I wrote my first federal grant (with my co-workers). Have you ever written a federal grant? With a collaboration? It's a lot of work. A lot lot lot of work in very little time. There was a well deserved celebratory lunch out (Vietnamese soup & spring rolls) followed by cookies.

I accidentally made a whole pan of brownies, when I meant to make half a pan.
So I had to spend a lot of time eating brownies:-)
Recipe (my mom's brownies are sooo good).

(photo from last fall)
First bike ride of the spring today, and it was still light out at the end of the ride.
:-) :-) :-)

I started making a spring/summer wishlist and thinking about what I want to buy before my trip to Spain. Trip to Spain where it will be warm and lovely and my parents and I will finally see my sister (who's been abroad all semester). Daydreaming about the trip has been taking a lot of time.

if I could, I would

Go on a shopping spree on topshop.com. Even though I can't, I'll still pick out what I want:

Even with all the sparkly dresses and pretty shoes, I think the thing I want the most is the duck shirt!

and now, we wait.

I have 4 more thirty for thirty outfits to post before I can officially say I'm done, but I left my camera at my friends' house. Tragic timing, I must say.

To hold you over while you excitedly await my last 4 photos, we can talk about the pants I'm going to wear this fall. (and winter, but I'm not thinking about that cold dreariness yet). Pants and I don't really get along in summer. I wear them on occasion, feel constricted and return to my favorite dresses and skirts. Then the nights start to get cool in August, so pants and I begin to make up.

I walk to work and I know I will need to warm dress pants for those days when two pairs of tights are still thin and cold. Given that dry cleaning is environmentally bad, financially bad, and time management bad, I'm looking for a few options that are washable. Faithful old stores, Gap & Banana Republic have some great options:

What do you all think? Dress pants seem so boring on their own, but we all know the power of accessories.

fun new things

All sorts of new things...
Blogger has new templates - what do you think of our layout?

I just stumbled across this shop - Spotted Moth - with really cute things. Two of my favorites:

Draped to a T Blouse                                  Maraschino Dress
Both work and life acceptable!

And this great blog with a recipe for homemade strawberry ice cream using Greek yogurt - I'm going to try it with the non-fat kind.

I'm wearing a favorite summer outfit and planning to bike to work this today (I'm only working the afternoon, delightful schedule), so I should finally have outfit pictures later.

rainy day summer wishes

It's a cold and dreary day, but here are a few pretty summer things:

This cute slightly embellished tee from Target comes in the pretty pattern above and many other colors. On sale for $7 right now! (Usually $10, so a good deal always).

I've had my eye on this Tulle skirt for a while now, but it's $55 and not on sale (yet?!)

Another sort of embellished tee, but I love the little twist. On sale for $28.

Have a good night everyone!

floral fantasy

Now that I'm done with all my classes and final projects and basically college in general (oh my!) I'm spending my time either job hunting or fantasizing about floral dresses to wear on summertime strolls. For the record, I prefer the latter.

I have found my ideal summer outfit on Gap.com!

Once that whole job thing is figured out (keep all fingers and toes crossed!) maybe my fantasies can become reality.

anyone for a springtime tea party?

Hey there, lovely people who might have noticed our recent lack of posts. Remember that ugly time at the end of every college semester when every student has tons of work/papers/exams, all sorts of final events are happening, and (consequently) everyone is cranky? Add the fact that many of our dearest friends (and us too) are trying finalize post-graduation plans and that my dance show is tonight and tomorrow so I have been practically living in the theatre this week. It's a little crazy, to say the least.

Needless to say, my outfits haven't felt very "blog-able" this week, and I haven't had time to take pictures anyway. I did just discover this beautiful Etsy site full of flower-y things that I would love to wear to spring tea party or wedding! (Anyone want to host?)

a little modcloth love

Modcloth has a Spring Formal page, so obviously I had to look at it and dream a little. I just love dressing up!

I just love everything about that dress.

This makes me think that couch fabric can be elegant...and then I laugh at myself.

It is disgusting and rainy again today, but I am wearing my heart rain boots which always make life better. Outfit post to come!

weekend wants

I spent the weekend visiting friend, family, a new little baby (!) at home, as well grant writing and job searching. I was busy and I don't have any outfit pictures, but there are always pretty things on the Anthropologie website:

I love the lace and stripes together - Field Game Cardigan

The pattern is almost too much, but the flowers are cute! - Zigzags and Zinnias Tee

Happy Monday, hope everyone has a good week!

party time!

Merry Christmas Eve! (for those who celebrate and for those who don't celebrate but are hopefully enjoying a nice, relaxing evening with family and/or friends)

I just finished making Christmas cookies (Grandma's filled cookie recipe) with my mom and sister, while my dad cooks ducks for Christmas Eve dinner. Now I'm getting excited for New Year's Eve. I am very tempted to buy a new party dress for the occasion and have my eye on a few options. Forever 21 has some great options:

A couple more fun and pretty options from Macy's:

And two more from Charlotte Russe:

Pleated Lace Tube Dress and Floral Jacquard Dress

What are you wearing for New Year's Eve? Beyond my high school proms and graduation, I have never really been one to buy a dress for a specific occasion but I'm really in the mood for a fun party dress lately...

postlapsaria

I just stumbled across this beautiful blog and shop: http://www.postlapsaria.com/.

The shop is here http://www.postlapsaria.com/store.html and these are my favorites:

The blog is here http://keikolynn.blogspot.com/

In other thoughts, I had a craving for homemade chocolate chip cookies this week that could only be satisfied by the best of the best Nestle Tollhouse recipe, made from scratch of course. We even made them "old fashioned style" because I don't own a mixer, hahaha. Here's a google images picture to tempt your taste buds a bit more:

three tips if you decide to make some of your own:
1. they really must be homemade from scratch and you cannot cut the butter. you can, however, you 1/2 wheat flour and it will not be the slightest bit noticeable (as my friends if you doubt me).
2. do not use salt, cookies are supposed to be sweet (and that's how my mommy does it).
3. the recipe calls for nuts, but that would be a chocolate nut cookie. I prefer classic chocolate chip.

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend!

sweater vests and skirts

I posted once before about Uber Chic for Cheap before - Madeline just a posted my "reader request" with some much less expensive options of a few items from Banana Republic. It's great, you should all check it out! I particularly like:
(from Forever 21) I have been coveting long sweater vests with big buttons. This is not quite a vest but I really like the color options.
Brambles
(from NETILZ on Etsy) This is just really pretty.
BLACK
(from Arden B) I need some more interesting professional skirts for work, that help me look a little older as I look young-ish for my age. I'm learning just how hard it is to wear fun styles and look old...

I was in New York visiting my sister and family this weekend so an outfit post will be coming soon:-)
