Hire Me?

A couple of weeks ago I posted about what I was planning to wear to a career fair - senioritis job search. I ended up wearing a blue shirt instead of white. I wore boots because it is still February and the weather would not allow open shoes and dry feet.

Yes, I cut my face out of the pictures...I don't know if I was nervous or what exactly but my face looks funny in all the photos haha.

Here's what I wore later that day to be "business casual" and comfy for work.

All in all, I love the outfit and actually wore it to another career fair last week - both were successful. I just wish I had a better picture of the tweed jacket. It has such great fabric and buttons and I love it!

a little modcloth love

Modcloth has a Spring Formal page, so obviously I had to look at it and dream a little. I just love dressing up!

I just love everything about that dress.

This makes me think that couch fabric can be elegant...and then I laugh at myself.

It is disgusting and rainy again today, but I am wearing my heart rain boots which always make life better. Outfit post to come!

style icon

I've become kind of obsessed with Emily Fitch. She's on the British TV show Skins which is one of my favorite shows, though I have to watch it illegally online because I no longer live in England...she's played by Kathryn Prescott, who is utterly gorgeous.

I am obsessed with her hair and wardrobe on the show. And her voice, but that's less easy to recreate. I want that hair so bad, and I think I'll dye mine that color soon. (God, I hope I don't regret it!)

And the clothes they put her in on the show are the epitome of what I wish I could wear every day. It's very girly and whimsical, but also kind of carefree and badass. Which is basically her character in a nutshell.

cats and dogs

It is pouring buckets today. And cats and dogs. And every other rain metaphor you can think of. Basically, it's gross. It reminds me of when I was in Milan, and it was pouring and freezing and so windy my umbrella broke. Only it's not that bad today, but it's worse because I'm not in Milan. Which is where I took the above picture of the cutest little boy ever. He knows how to deal with the rain!

I also found some really lovely pictures with umbrellas on Tip Toes on Weardrobe, and they are inspiring me despite the rain. I wish I had so many lovely umbrellas! And maybe a rainbow Mickey Mouse one too.

weekend wants

I spent the weekend visiting friend, family, a new little baby (!) at home, as well grant writing and job searching. I was busy and I don't have any outfit pictures, but there are always pretty things on the Anthropologie website:

I love the lace and stripes together - Field Game Cardigan

The pattern is almost too much, but the flowers are cute! - Zigzags and Zinnias Tee

Happy Monday, hope everyone has a good week!

sack

I love this dress, the le sac dress from American Apparel. You can wear it like 80,000 different ways, or something like that. So I put a t-shirt and jeans under it and tied a bow! Also, I got my new glasses (3 weeks ago....) and I adore them. I find myself looking in every mirror and window I pass, I like them so much. I suppose it's kind of vain, but this whole blogging business is. I guess I'm just a vain person. BUT! I can't think of a but, but I know there is one.

You can see our little pink Christmas tree on the mantle, I finally took it down today. Spring approaches! And we must act and decorate accordingly.

way of life: scarves and belts

Has anyone noticed that I pretty much always wear a scarf? Even in the summer I wear scarves, so once winter comes and they're necessary, I just can't leave my neck bare! Here's a few outfits, with scarves, that I wore recently:

I wore this to dinner, Vagina Monologues and two birthday parties - busy but fun night.

It's possible that I went overboard with the border here...never the less, I wore this to a 9am class and received a few compliments on being put together in the morning.

Vintage belt, feather headband, favorite new jeans, favorite heels, smile, smile, smile!

And a close-up on the belt.

Btw, I went to the career fair this morning and one of the recruiters loved my blazer. Plus, I have a few jobs to apply for probably:-)

a tad plaid

I am so excited about this outfit, which I wore on Monday and got tons of compliments on! It combines two items I love, but don't wear very often, because I don't really know what to do with them. The dress/jumper looks too little-girly with a t-shirt under it, but it's not quite appropriate (or warm!) without something under it. And the plaid shirt is great, but it's a men's shirt, so it kind of just looks like a bag on me. But viola! These two items have found each other to create one of my new favorite outfits.

shiny

The other day was my roommate Anna's birthday, so we had a little shin dig on Friday night! It was especially nice to have the party at our apartment, because I could wear whatever I wanted without having to worry about layering to be warm. What a relief. So I wore this new top from Forever 21 and these shoes which I haven't worn in months. Refreshing.

it's a winter wonderland

It's a snowy winter wonderland outside, and although I'm very tired of winter, the view out my window while sitting new to the heater is beautiful:-)

Here's a couple outfit posts...I promise I don't actually wear these boots everyday, but they are pretty fabulous.

I'm not actually sure how I feel about this outfit, but I received quite a few compliments on it.

In this outfit, I'm wearing a vintage belt and a thrifted skirt, which simply makes me happy.

Hope you're either drinking hot cocoa (with marshmallows!) or playing in the snow!

senioritis job search

What's a senior to do when she doesn't want to do homework and is mid-job search? Contemplate what to wear to Wednedsay's career fair, of course!

banana republic skirt

blazer from mom (I love the tweed and the buttons and that fact that this blazer is from Scotland)

white button-up from Victoria's Secret (appropriately buttoned up, of course)

What do you think? This is my first career fair and the first time in my job search that I need to dress professionally - so far my search has been online based.

recipe for warmth: etsy and l.l.bean

I thought a few tips on how to stay warm and stylish(ish) in the cold cold winter weather were due after Anna and I both posted about Hel Looks.

First, two coat options from New England's trusted L.L.Bean:

long ultrawarm coat and three quarter ultrawarm coat - not exactly my favorite looks, but very much acceptable forms of staying warm.

I generally prefer to go with peacoats and am usually warm enough in my Delia's coat with thinsulate:

Neckwarmers from Etsy (just search neckwarmers and you'll find a plethora of pretty options):

And something that absolutely must keep you warm:
